Unfortunately, MOST translations do not render the Greek adverb _protos_ into English in 2 Thess 2:3. Translators, presumably, omit that rendering because the conditional statement already makes that point of “Event A Happens before Event B.” But translations should render the Greek term “first” to drive home the point that Paul himself is stressing: that two events will happen “first” and thereby “before” the day of the Lord.
