The Second Coming Does NOT Begin at the Battle of Armageddon
In this Bible prophecy teaching, Alan Kurschner explains why the Second Coming of Christ should not be reduced to the Battle of Armageddon. Many Christians assume that Armageddon is the event that begins the return of Jesus, but this video argues that Scripture presents the Second Coming as a larger, unified, extended event that begins earlier—with the resurrection and rapture of the saints—and culminates later in Christ’s victory over the nations.
Understanding the Parousia: Arrival and Continuing Presence
The video begins by examining the biblical meaning of the Greek word parousia, often translated as “coming.” Rather than describing a single moment, the term carries the idea of Christ’s arrival and continuing presence. Just as the first coming of Christ included more than His birth, the Second Coming includes more than one event. The rapture, resurrection, wrath of God, kingdom inauguration, and Battle of Armageddon all belong to the larger scope of Christ’s return.
Why the Rapture Begins the Second Coming
Alan walks through key passages such as 1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 and 1 Corinthians 15:23 to show that the resurrection and rapture occur at Christ’s coming. This means the Second Coming begins in the sky, when Jesus gathers His people, not later on earth at Armageddon. Matthew 24:29–31 is also compared with Revelation 19 to show that these are not describing the same scene.
Matthew 24 and Revelation 19 Are Different Events
One of the major arguments in this teaching is that Matthew 24 describes deliverance before wrath, while Revelation 19 describes judgment near the end of God’s wrath. Matthew 24 focuses on Christ gathering His elect after the Great Tribulation is cut short. Revelation 19, however, presents Christ coming in judgment against the gathered armies of the nations.
The Day of the Lord’s Wrath Begins Before Armageddon
This video also explains why the Day of the Lord’s wrath cannot begin at Armageddon. The trumpet and bowl judgments in Revelation occur before the final battle, showing that God’s eschatological wrath is already underway. Armageddon does not initiate God’s wrath; it climaxes it.
Christ’s Kingdom Begins Before the Battle
Alan also argues that Christ’s earthly kingdom is announced before Armageddon, especially in connection with the seventh trumpet and passages such as Psalm 2 and Psalm 110. The nations rage because Christ has taken His rightful rule, and Armageddon becomes their final failed rebellion against the reigning King.
What Viewers Can Expect
Viewers will gain a clearer understanding of prewrath eschatology, the relationship between the rapture and the Second Coming, the timing of the Day of the Lord, and why the Battle of Armageddon is not the beginning of Christ’s return but part of its later culmination.
