What will the New Jerusalem actually look like? In this episode of Bible Prophecy Answers, we examine the biblical evidence for understanding the New Jerusalem not as a giant cube, but as a mountain or pyramid-shaped structure. The traditional interpretation of Revelation 21:16 assumes the city is a cube because its length, width, and height are equal. This episode explores an alternative understanding of those dimensions and the biblical imagery that supports it.
The New Jerusalem and the Holy Mountain of God
The discussion traces the theme of God's dwelling place as a holy mountain throughout Scripture, including Isaiah 2, Psalm 2, Psalm 48, Psalm 68, and Exodus 15. These passages provide important background for understanding the imagery surrounding God's future dwelling place.
Ezekiel and the Jerusalem of the Future
Ezekiel's vision of a city on a high mountain is compared with John's description of the New Jerusalem in Revelation. The discussion highlights the square base, twelve gates, twelve tribes, and God's presence as significant connections between Ezekiel's vision and Revelation 21.
A Pyramid or Step-Pyramid Structure?
The episode examines Amos, the Psalms of Ascents, and Revelation's twelve foundations as possible clues to a vertically structured city resembling a step pyramid. The “Jerusalem above” and God's dwelling place as a mountain are also explored.
